Hard to Resist

stack of fabric
43.5 yards
January 2018
Friday, Sheri and I went to shopping for bargains at Sheep Camp Quilt Supply. The shop was closed last week for inventory and informed customers that the Clearance Room was well stocked with fabric priced in the $4-6 range.

I came away with more fabric than I intended to purchase, but I found some great yardage for Quilt of Valor backings. The five bottom lengths of fabric in the photo are 5+ yards each and will create backings for close to seven quilts.

All of the fabric I selected was $4 a yard, a great deal: quilting fabric normally sells for $11-13 a yard.

The shop was busy on Friday, and many quilters were enhancing their stash and saving a lot of money.

Do you stock up on supplies when you find a good deal?

  1. I do Nancy! You have quite the bounty of reds grays and that gorgeous brown.

  2. Great score! Yes, I love a deal on the backings! Glad you had such a good trip!

  3. That is a fabulous bargain! Good job! I do tend to buy thread when it's on sale. And my local shop has a "fat quarter frenzy" annually. They also have a bargain corner of a back room with some great finds.

  4. Your choices are very pretty and wow! Such a steal! I would not have been able to resist either. I used to buy fabric all the time (hoarding for something...), and embroidery floss, and linen, and patterns...now it's yarn....

  5. I too stocked up on quilting fabric on Friday. I wish I had been with you because I paid full price. I do love a good sale and it sounds like you fell into a great one! I love the assortment you chose. Great colors!

  6. What a gorgeous selection and a great sale! I'm 90 miles in any direction from the nearest quilt shop, so I tend to look for more on-line bargains, sadly, and they aren't typically as good. If I'm in one of my far flung towns, however, I do check out the clearance section. Hope we get to see how you use some of these!

  8. That was a wonderful deal. Yes, I stock up on sales too. In fact I just bought 5 skeins of yarn at Michaels this morning. $2.00/skein, normally $4.49 each, plus a coupon for an extra 20% off the purchase good only for today. I use that yarn for the children's mittens so I'm always watching for sales.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  10. Like Vera, I used to buy a lot of fabric, but now it's yarn, and I am trying to resist that. You got a great deal though! And nice colors also.

  11. Oh yes, there are some thing in the craft dept that I have a hard time passing up. That looks like a colorful bunch of material to add to your stash! :)

  12. Oh yes, but this year instead of stash, it has been warm winter clothing.

Steve and I went to TWO Land's End stores because they had a fabulous sale on fleece tops and Drifter sweaters. I bought all they had in my size (4 fleeces and 2 sweaters). That should hold me for awhile.

Your fabrics are so pretty. I particularly like the ticked on with the little red flowers.

  13. So envious! We just don't get specials like that in NZ

  14. I seldom can go to my stash and grab a backing fabric. So, I am jealous of your good finds. I prefer to get fabric on major specials. Maybe it's time to do a bit of internet shopping for some good sales. Well, first I will hit the local quilt store. They do have a sale area but the fabric hasn't excited me so far. But I'm waiting til after the end of this month....
