Men's Cowls & a Gift Basket

four men's cowls
knit with reclaimed wool
August/September 2017
I finished these four cowls in four and a half days. All were knit with reclaimed wool from thrift shop sweaters.

The two top cowls (charcoal gray and tan) were knit using First Timer’s HS Mini-Cowl (Ravelry link) with a size 9 needle. Each cowl is 8 inches deep and 21 inches in circumference. The yarn used was a light worsted. Cowl is reversible with two distinct textures.

Dark Tweed cowl on lower left was knit using “Trust Me, Harry” Hat and Cowl (Ravelry link) with a worsted yarn and size 10 needles. Cowl is 8 inches deep and 21 inches in circumference

Army Green cowl in the lower right was knit with Just Try It in a lighted worsted. Size 9 needles were used. Cowl is 8 inches deep and 21 inches in circumference

These four cowls round out the contents of the special gift basket delivered to Fremont Therapy. My primary therapist had first pick, and then the other therapists, therapy technician, and receptionists selected one.

I had therapy in March and April 2016, and returned for several months, prior to my surgery, to take advantage of an "independent gym" program. I credit the independent program as well as the formal therapy sessions for increasing my strength and for making my recovery faster.

The crew at Fremont Therapy have always been professional, knowledgeable, and compassionate, and I felt they needed something special.

Have you given a gift of appreciation to anyone recently?

  1. That is a great idea and a lovely gesture of appreciation. I haven't done anything similar recently, but probably should. I've been getting PT on the Achilles tendonitis for that past month. One last (hopefully) visit next week.

  2. What a wonderful thing to do and I know they are going to love those beautiful cowls. You have a lovely heart for others. Love bigger needles too! Everything I'm working on is size 2 or 4 and taking. Along, long time. :-)
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  3. I love this idea. I will probably ask the staff at the Barn which fingerless they want. Maybe this will solve my forever dilemma of what if they don't like the color ? Let them pick!!
