Blended Scrap Socks

Blended Scrap Socks
women's size 9 - 10
I am using a variety of scraps for these socks, and yes, some of the yarn is from socks that have been raveled. Once this pair of socks are knit and laundered, the kinks will not be noticeable.

If I am counting correctly, I used seven different yarns in the first sock. The socks will not match because some the same yarns are not being used in both. I cast on with one yarn, knit two rows, added another yarn and knit two rows. From that point, I alternate the two yarns (knitting two rows each) until the all the yarn is used. Then, I add another color and continue alternating yarn every two rows.

Yarn: superwash wool, sock yarn - all scraps
Needles: size 2 circulars
Cast on: 56 stitches
Size: women's 9 - 10

  1. What a great use of scraps! And since today's sock trend is to NOT match the 2 socks, it won't matter at all that they do not have the same yarn colors used. I keep saying I'm going to do something similar, but I really don't have enough "left-overs" yet so try this. Very neat work, Nancy!

  4. These scrappy socks are darned cute! I have a feeling I've got scrappy socks to make in my future. When I organized my yarns the other day, I was surprised how much sock yarn I had!! And how many scraps I've already accumulated!

  6. Cute, cute, CUTE! I think I'll start saving scraps and give it a try. On one of the Rav groups, scrappy socks are the theme for next month. :-)

  7. I love them and non-matching socks are the rage this year. I wanted to make some of your l-o-o-o-ng top socks but I gave up half-way up the leg. I'm out of the sock knitting mode at the moment but when I see your beautiful socks I can feel it coming back!

  11. What a great idea! I am really stunned at how well they all play together - I would never have believed it! Now I know what I'll do with all my scrap sock yarn :*)

  13. I love that they do go together even though technically they are not the same. I will have some scraps too in another couple of socks and would be able to do this too so I am wondering about your technique for joining. I don't relish the idea of weaving lots of ends in...do you split the yarn and meld it together rather than knot and weave?

  14. Great idea! I, too, am curious how you joined the yarns. I love the way yours turned out!

  15. Great idea! I like these colors of woolen socks. When I make something like this, I always try to make the colors pleasant.
