Scrap-Happy Socks

Scrap-Happy Socks
knit on size 2 needles, using four different sock yarn scraps
It is fun to take scrap yarn and turn it into something useful and unique. The short-cuffed socks in the photo were knit from scrap sock yarn that Kathy (Kathy's Fancy Stitching) sent to me.

Kathy offered to machine-quilt Square Dance, and when she mailed the quilt back to me, she enclosed a large bag of scrap sock yarn. I was thrilled beyond words with all the wonderful colors of yarn. Each yarn was wound into two separate balls, so it was prepped and ready for knitting. Thank you, Kathy for your generosity!

The body of the sock was made by knitting two rows of one yarn and then two rows of another. When one yarn ran out, I started another scrap ball. This pair of socks used four different colors of yarn.

These socks were a delight to knit and will be fun to wear, too.

  1. Pretty! I'm finishing up a scrap sock yarn blanket. I tried to keep it mostly gender-neutral, so I left out a lot of my pinks and such.

  2. Oh I LOVE how those turned out! I am so glad you have a use for the scraps. Please tell me, when you do this 2-rows-and-then-change-yarn thing, do you just pick up the new yarn, let the previous yarn dangle as you knit around, knit over it when you come around to the starting place, then pick it up again after 2 rows? I'm sure that question is clear as mud, but I certainly would not want to have to weave in all those tails.

  3. Also - I'm wondering if you do 'jogless' stripes? Or is the change on the bottom of the foot and you just don't care? Very nice socks by the way. g
