Finding the Good

Image
It's easy to get depressed watching the news and the ever-growing number of individuals infected with the virus enveloping the globe, but for mental health, it's important to also focus on the good, no matter how small. Some good things that happened here: •  I'm knitting again - a pair of socks with stash yarn •  Online banking - taking care of necessities without leaving home •  Mystery QALs - clues to look forward to each week/month Share something good that happened to you in the last week.

Pointed Fun - clue #1

Image
nine, churn dash blocks March 2020 Clue #1 of Pointed Fun was released and completed on Wednesday. Marilyn and I sewed together via Face Time in the afternoon: she worked on a pieced quilt border while I assembled the nine, churn dash blocks for the mystery QAL. The blocks are 13 inches unfinished.

Scrap Dance Twist - clue 3

Image
Scrap Dance Twist March clue complete March 2020 It didn't take long to complete the March clue for this mystery QAL. I'm making a throw size quilt using the directions given on From My Carolina Home blog . The clues are released on the third Friday of each month - the final reveal will be in August.

Pointed Fun - preparation

fabric cut and ready to sew Mystery A10 - Pointed Fun March 2020 Alycia ( Quilty Girl ) started another QOV mystery, and since I have no place to go, I will sew, I will sew, I will sew. . . The clues will be published weekly on the Mystery Quilts 4 Military group on ioGroups.

What two comfort foods were on your  COVID-19 confinement, shopping list? I purchased microwave popcorn and Tootsie Roll Midgees.

Scrap Dance Twist

Scrap Dance Twist February clue complete March 2020 Carole ( From My Carolina Home ) started a new mystery in January. I saved the clues to work on later, and now that I'm helping flatten the curve of COVID-19 by staying home, I decided to work on the mystery. The clues are easy and are released on the third Friday of each month for seven months. Previous and future clues can be found here . The clues are removed from her blog after the mystery is solved, so if you're interested in working on the quilt later, SAVE the clues. January's clue was to select fabric and cut into the required units. This mystery uses a lot of charm squares and 4.5 inch squares, too. I decided to make the throw sized and use the over abundance of fabric I purchased for Tavern Blues . I used the same fabric to make another one of Carole's mysteries - Square Dance . February's clue (shown in the photo) results in 80 two-patch units.

Clicking Away

Old Fashioned Peppermint Stripe socks March 2020 I finally picked up my knitting needles again after weeks of inactivity. Dee has been knitting socks from some beautiful yarn, and when I lamented to her that my knitting mojo had disappeared, she sent me some MOJO via email. That jolt of electronic mojo prompted me to wind the hank of yarn into a cake and cast on a pair of socks. It feels odd to be knitting again, but my fingers quickly picked up the rhythm. We the People

Image
We the People 60 x 72 Quilt of Valor #176 A quick quilt made with a panel and some printed "cheater" fabric. I think they go well together. I have another panel like this, and wish I had more of the red fabric with white stars to use with it. I had to carefully sew the pieces together to use them for this panel. It worked out pretty well. The seams aren’t too obvious and can't be seen from a galloping horse, so I guess the borders will pass inspection. scraps and pieces used to make a border for the eagle panel

Battling the Virus

Image
disinfecting dominos used each week at the Eppson Center March 2020 Every week a group meets at the Eppson Center (senior center) to play Mexican Train dominos. We've been playing together for over a year and have become friends. Last week, I started disinfecting the dominos so we can continue playing as long as possible. So far, Wyoming has three confirmed cause of COVID-19 and others pending confirmation. The virus has not hit my community yet, but I'm sure it will be here by the end of the month. Until COVID-19 became a part of our life, I didn't think these uniform pieces of plastic could harm anyone. Now, I'm not taking any chances.

Not So Fast . . .

Still another month or maybe even two months before "actual spring."

Making Memories

Image
celebrating 94 years February 2020 Every month, I invite a group of ladies in the apartment complex to play Mexican Train dominos. Since we have become friends in the past year, we celebrated the 94th birthday of one of the ladies at our last gathering. The party was a group effort - a cake, ice cream, flowers, cards. The birthday gal was thrilled, and everyone enjoyed making her day special.

Definition, Please

Image
Vituperative was used in Lone Wolf   by Judy Picoult to describe the actions of one of the main characters. I was curious and asked Siri to find the definition. ( Yes, I was too lazy to go look in the dictionary ) I doubt that I will ever use the word in every day conversation, but it's now in my vocabulary. Have you discovered any "new" words recently?

Image
