Foreign Friday
Nancy Stearns and Judith Kravetz Southern Japan April 1980 |
Does anyone remember wearing CPO jackets in the 1970s? I had two - the blue one shown in this photo and a brown/rust one. Both were wool and were great for travel and for layering for warmth.
Nearly all the Foreign Friday photos I've shared on the blog were taken with the Minolta SLR that I'm holding in this photo. It was a great (but heavy) camera and served me well for many years. When I returned to Wyoming in the fall of 1981, I used the camera to take photos for the school yearbook.
Oh my goodness, yes I remember CPO jackets! That was when I was in junior high/high school. And leisure suits!
ReplyDeleteOur son was wearing one of those jackets when we were on a birding expedition back in January. I love the flash of blue in yours!
ReplyDeleteMany of those old cameras were among the best ever made and Minolta has always turned out a good product.
Awe, I LOVE that photo. It is my favorite of you!
ReplyDeleteI've never had a Minolta.
We would have complained so much to my mom about wool that she would never have bought us those jackets! I am still very sensitive with scratchy wools of any kind.
I remember them, I had a blue/black plaid one!
ReplyDeleteI could never afford a SLR camera and I am certain it didn't have an auto setting anyway! Yes I remember those jackets, I never had one...looks warm:)
ReplyDeleteMy first 35mm camera was a Minolta. It gave me great service for many years. But, boy isn't digital great. I take a LOT more photos now.
ReplyDeleteThe CPO jackets missed me, evidently. But nice photo. I always thought the Minolta seemed quite exotic. Not sure why. Have a nice weekend, Nancy.
ReplyDeleteI would so wear one of those jackets today! Well, perhaps not TODAY since it is in the 90's, but I would love to have one in the closet to pull out when cooler weather arrives. Good camera around your neck, sunglasses on your head, classic clothes that are timeless...I like your style!
