St. Andrew's Chapel
Lutheran Student Center
near the University of Wyoming campus
Laramie, WY
circa 1973
I have wonderful memories of worshiping in Saint Andrew's Chapel while I was attending the University of Wyoming. The Lutheran Student Center was a home away from home and provided spiritual and physical needs for many students.

The Gamma Delta group hosted Bible studies, retreats, activities, and meals. I was also active in a group that sang contemporary, Christian music and folk songs at Sunday services: three members played six-string and twelve-string guitars and approximately eight additional members sang.

In the mid-60s, my sister and brother-in-law lived in the old Student Center and managed it while Paul was attending the university. They planned activities and prepared meals for the students. Photos of the old center can be seen here. I remember visiting my sister at the old center during a trip to the State Basketball Championships.

The ground floor of the new student center had a large family room with a television, a library, the chapel, the pastor's office, and an apartment for the manager. The basement had a large fellowship hall and kitchen, several private, study rooms, and a game room.

  2. I love stained glass windows. I had much fun walking around 3 Sundays ago with a friend's husband, looking at the windows in their church. (They attend the big, downtown Episcopal church, while I attend the one where I was baptized as a baby, out in podunk.) The National Cathedral in DC can rival any cathedral, anywhere for its stained glass... in my opinion.

  7. That is beautiful. Our student union (Baptist) didn't have a chapel in it. Did your sister live there while you attended? Seems like that would be a hard job to fix all the meals, and a loud place to live too.

  8. What a beautiful stained glass. I could look at it for hours and still not see all the nuances in it. I recently was looking at a stained glass (can't remember if it was online or in person but I think it was online.) I couldn't quite figure out what was different about it. And, then, all of a sudden I realized it was "fake" stained glass. Or at least that is what I called it. The faces looked like they had been printed on something and then put into the piece. And, I was so flabbergasted I didn't really look at the rest carefully to see whether the whole thing was printed to look like stained glass. I prefer the real thing. Beautiful piece and room.

  9. I love stained glass windows, I really wish that they were more widespread. It seems like in New England it is pretty common to see them on old banks buildings. This is a lovely example of glass work, I'm sure it was admired by many!

  10. Beautiful! There is something about stained glass that really draws my eye... the light playing through the variations in the many different colors, perhaps. Thanks for sharing this wonderful window!
