I'm Curious. . .
I'm curious how many of you do a deep cleaning (Spring Cleaning) of your house? You know the kind where you move the furniture, vacuum the blinds or drapes, wash the curtains, wipe down the mop boards, wash the windows (inside and out), dust the top of the door frames - a real white-glove test cleaning.
Is "Spring Cleaning" a mythical legend or a genuine phenomenon?
I'm an Army wife. My house gets seriously deep-cleaned every two years or so (or for a memorable, three-year period, every year.) The kind of cleaning where all the furniture is removed, all ornaments/décor taken down and dusted, all food is eliminated, and the house is completely cleaned and left empty. A few days or weeks or even months later, another house is completely cleaned and all items placed after being washed or wiped again because strangers have handled them, and a completely new stock of food is brought into the house. Two years later, we repeat!
ReplyDeleteWell i am so sorry to see you are getting cold and snow again. UCK!!
ReplyDeletewe are getting thunderstorms and rain at least.....
SPring cleaning is when FIREMAN says, We have to do the windows today. THen we clean our true divided light windows throughout the house and it feels like an enormous task is done.
the rest of the house we keep up with all the time....sort of!!
Parties make us clean really well too!
Semi-myth ---- I keep our house pretty neat and tidy. But, if I go house hunting (we are looking to downsize), I always come home and have to tackle some cleaning project. LOL
ReplyDeleteGetting company is my big motivator. And since I usually get a big batch of visitors in July, my cleaning could possibly be considered late spring. However, it's not always a thorough as it could be. But, eventually it all gets taken care of.
ReplyDeleteThat kind of deep cleaning usually gets done right before we have overnight guests.
ReplyDeleteUse to, many years ago but now I just do the things that but me like windows I can't see out of and etc.
ReplyDeleteNope. I'm far too busy in the spring for heavy cleaning. We do heavy cleaning as needed, but we try to stay on top of it...
ReplyDeleteWhen the kids were home and I worked full time...we did deep spring cleaning..now I've tried to to a little deep cleaning every week...in a different area...then I can stay on top of it! but now that we sold our home and renting...soon we'll move again so I don't have to think about it this year:))
ReplyDeletewe are good spring cleaners, we move the furniture, clean the blinds, and change the curtains, we vaccuum/dust the baseboards and windowsills and deep clean closets and cabinets and purge un needed un used unworn items accordingly. Two things are left on our list, the bedroom closet and the kitchen but it will get done
ReplyDeleteFunny, we just had this discussion on a forum I visit. Some do a deep clean in the spring, but some think it isn't necessary now that people aren't heating their homes with an open fireplace or stove. I deep clean year round so no special thing in the spring. I don't deep clean the whole house every week, just one room per week and that way the whole house gets a keep cleaning at least twice a year.
ReplyDeleteI don't do a deep cleaning. But I do move the furniture and vacuum under and around them weekly (most weeks). Floors get steam cleaned monthly. Top the fridge gets cleaned whenever I have to get the china out of the cupboard. We live here. My house isn't spotless, but it isn't filthy either. And I have sheddy dogs. g
ReplyDeleteThe cleaning fairy could be in real danger if she went under my bed. Never mind Autumn here so Spring cleaning a looong way away!
ReplyDeleteLinda
I am a winter cleaner since that is when I have the time to do it. It makes going back to work easier for me. Yes ..and I deep clean..everything gets moved, cleaned, repaired, donated or thrown away. My windows wait for warmer weather..and I do them spring and fall with small washings from dog prints. I usually fall clean my garage..sometimes in the spring if I have time..this year it has been too cold to clean the garage:)
