Do You Know. . .

Aelbert Cuyp: Portrait of a Young Man, c. 1651
This large painting appeared on the side of the Middle School before the end of the school term.  Can you help me identify the artist and the title of this piece?

Thanks to Paula TheQuilter, the painting has been identified. The original can be viewed at the Vancouver Art Gallery, as it is on loan from the City of Amsterdam.

  2. Yup, I know. It is "Portrait of a Young Man" by Aelbert Cuyp an oil painter in Amsterdam in the 1600s, peer to Rembrandt. If you look at the lighting of the portrait and the stance of the young man, you can get a clue as to the period and locale. HTH.

  3. What a wonderful face! I would like to know who he is. I Googled the painting and saw that he has a gun in his left hand. With the feathered beret he appears to be royalty or at least a person of authority. Fascinating!!
