Necktie Quilt

I came home just in time to catch the last day of the County Fair and see the wide variety of quilts on display. The new needlework superintendent did a fabulous job of hanging the quilts so they could be admired and examined closely.
By now, my readers know that I love to recycle, and the first quilt I saw was made entirely out of men's neckties.

Check out the way the quilter used the ties in the blocks. The construction of the 7 - 8 inch blocks is similar to Heart Strings blocks.

Note the labels on the blocks, too.

This quilt illustrates that even the humble necktie can be turned into a work of art. I have been collecting silk neckties for a few years, and I think I have enough to make a quilt.

  1. I'm excited to see what you do with your ties. I got a box of stuff at an auction with blocks made in a crazy quilt syle with topstitched embroidery on the seams. There was a Christmas stocking started in the same style.

  5. This just goes to show that almost anything can be repurposed!I don't know if you or any of your readers ever get prescription meds in a long blue plastic box, instead of a bottle. My hubby gets 2 a month. A lady on a blog I read took those ugly blue boxes and made the prettiest box to hold a scripture card! There are really some creative people around.

  6. I think this is a great idea I have lots of lots of neckties that maybe my husband will not mind me making something of. Lovely!

  7. I've got a pile of neckties with the plan of doing something with them, but haven't even begun the time-consuming job of taking them apart! What you've shown is gorgeous.
