Foreign Friday

Water Taxi on the Chao Phraya River
Bangkok, Thailand
December 1979
Bangkok was a teeming city in 1979. Cars, taxis, and buses crowded the streets; boats, the Chao Phraya River. Much of the city's commerce was done on the river, but the river was also used for bathing and for laundry.

  1. I don't know why, but water taxis fascinate me. Probably because they truly are foreign to my way of life!

  2. I look at the water taxi and think it would be a romantic way to live...but its probably true ...it's because it is foreign to me!

  3. They appear to be sitting very low in the boat. Looks difficult to get in and out.

  4. Ah! Finally somewhere I have been! I loved Bangkok, the food was amazing. I also had no idea that they had a king until I visited.

  5. My sweet daughter-in-law was a young girl in Bangkok in those days. She has told us both beautiful and sad stories of growing up in Thailand. All I can say is that if all Thai people are as lovely and dear as she is, it must be a wonderful country!!
