Stash Management

July 2022

A quick glance in the cotton yarn bin revealed some small scrap balls of various colors, and soon after, I cast on some franken-dishcloths. I don’t mind using the cloths made with bits and pieces of various colors, and I welcomed the mindless knitting, Soon, nine dishcloths were finished.

I grabbed two variegated balls of cotton yarn and knit two, hanging kitchen towels, using the Leftover Dishtowel pattern by Stephanie Haberman. (Ravelry link)

Gradually, I’m making progress in my goal of reducing my yarn stash.

  3. Isn't it amazing what you can make from left over yarn.

  4. I don't mind using the leftover small balls to make cloths for myself either. After all, they work just as well. The towels are so pretty and full of color. I've never knitted any. I usually cut a towel in half and then crochet the top. My MIL loves them and I just made her a couple of new ones. You reduce your stash and I buy more! I'm doing something wrong.

  7. Excellent. Dishcloths are on my to-do list for Christmas. I don't have a huge pile of cotton, but I have enough I want to use it up

  8. That's a great use for those left over bits and pieces. The knitted dish cloths work well. I have some my daughter made when she was learning to knit.

  9. It certainly is the season for making dishcloths. I am resisting the temptation like crazy because it just seems to be the right thing to do in the summer but I have a box full now. I need to seriously retire some before I make anymore.

  10. That's a lovely selection you have made. Knitting cotton seems quite expensive here, more so than wool.

  11. Nice work! Are these going to be gifts or? I'm working on my stash, too, and trying very hard not to buy any new yarn. That's tough because I like to support my favorite shops.
