It’s a Bird . . .

Bird e-scooter
Laramie, WY
October 2021

Just as the University of Wyoming students returned for Fall semester, a flock of Bird e-scooters landed in Laramie. I’ve seen a few people riding them, and the scooters are readily available downtown and along the route to the UW campus. The scooters, however, are not allowed on campus, and a geo-fence is used as a perimeter around the campus beyond which the e-scooters are unable to function.

The e-scooters were also placed in Casper and Cheyenne communities.

Does your community have an e-scooter rental program? Would you rent one?

  1. Hum. No clue. I seldom go downtown where I would expect them to be placed. I know DC has them but we don’t usually go there.

  4. Our old city had a rent-a-bike program, but only in the downtown area. I think it ended up getting cancelled.

  5. Spokane has bikes and scooters both that can be ridden all over town. You see them at bus stops all of the time. I don't know if Omaha does or not. I haven't been downtown once since we moved! I would think the college kids would love them for getting around the campus. Maybe it's a liability issue.

  6. Yes, there are 2 brands of scooters all over the place and as far as 6miles from the downtown core. No, I wouldn't rent one. I think a helmet is a requirement-could be that I was an OR RN for 38 years and saw too many head injuries from falls?

  7. I've never seen these! I most definitely would not rent one - I'd be the one to crash into something or fall off - LOL

  8. No - I haven't seen anything like this around here. But as a college town too, I would think these would be a popular addition.

  9. We had them here at the beach pre-pandemic but I haven't seen them since. I've seen them in N VA where Son lives. It think it's so weird that you can just leave them laying around when you are done with them and they lock up so no one can use them until they are paid for again.

  10. I've never heard of that but I would like to ride one! lol I will look for them when I go to our nearest large campus town-Gainesville! Cool.

  11. No however I did see one at a car show and the guy was zipping right along. I am way to uncoordinated...if I fell off I would probably regret it for a long time...such a narrow board to stand on! :)
