Abandoned Knitting

August 2021

All of these projects have been stuffed in my knitting bag for months, and the scarf on the left was started nearly two years ago. Two years! How does that happen?!

Complexity is not the reason for their abandonment because all are mindless knits. I’ve simply lost interest in knitting. Perhaps if the projects were more visible, I would pick one up and work on it. I’ll leave them out of the bag to see if that helps.

How have you dealt with stalled and abandoned projects?

  1. I think we all have projects like that! Hopefully your knitting mojo will return. Meanwhile, you've been turning out some spectacular quilts!

  2. If a project is stalled for more than a few months, I usually end up frogging it. Not always, but usually

  3. I have them all over the house. I do manage to finish most of them but some have taken me 10 years or more. Putting them out of sight is always an issue. If I keep them where I sit I can usually keep up with them. Weather is also a thing. I never feel like knitting in the summer. Even socks are a chore.

  4. In some cases with quilting, I've abandoned some project completely - either giving them away or putting the fabrics back into the stash. When it's something I still want to finish then I've done like you and placed them out where I'll keep seeing them. I have a couple of those happening right now.

  5. I have two pair of socks that have been stalled for a very long time. Not sure what the answer is, hopefully my sock mojo will come back someday...just like your knitting mojo...perhaps I should make a list...but that is scary:)

  6. The only ongoing longterm project I have right now is my Nine patch cozy memories blanket. It's purposely there though. I like having it to fall back on when all others are complete. I always have a pair of socks or a dishcloth on the go to work on when I need something small. I'm definitely a production knitter so I like to complete a project befoe moing on too much.

  7. Hum, yep -- I have some abandoned knit projects. One is a full sweater with a poinsettia on the front. I pull it out every once in a while and do a row or two before I'm done. I'm seriously thinking I'll rip out the project and use the yarn for something else. Even if I finished it I doubt I'd wear it much if any. My bigger UFO issue is with the started quilts. For some reason I haven't even kept up a reliable UFO list. Something else to think about and "maybe" do something about. Hope you can move that scarf along -- winter is coming!

  8. Out of sight and out of mind certainly doesn't help projects progress at all, as I well know. I'm sure you will get back to your knitting now it's been rediscovered, and you will be so pleased you finally finished these items. Maybe you need something a little more challenging to pique your interest?

  9. You use your time for QOV! Maybe you want to reinvent your knitting for a charity? That seems to motivate you

  10. I have a ton of things stuffed into a shelf that are languishing! I ignore it while I enjoy other projects and then either rip it out or finish them eventually! Don't listen to their whining until you are ready!

  11. I always seem to have several projects going at once. I have a knitted antelope that has been waiting over a year for me to finish. The knitting was easy. I am stuck with the piecing. It requires wires in the body and legs.
