Aargh!
I can begin to tell you how often this happens . . .
When I was young, I would "sew" with Mom's machine - following a design drawn on paper - no thread in the bobbin or in the needle. It was fun to "air sew" then, not so much fun now! I'll admit sometimes a few choice words slip out of my mouth when I realize (after pulling out multiple pins) that I'd been sewing with an empty bobbin.
My machine usually beeps at me to alert me but if there is a little bit of lint it can miss the warning so I sew with no bobbin thread! It's all part of the 'fun'! lol
ReplyDeleteThat is so aggravating...I don't quilt, but that would happen often enough when I was sewing a garment.
ReplyDeleteMy machine has a warning beep and stops momentarily when my bobbin gets low. However - it must have quit working because I just did some air sewing a couple of days ago. Luckily I realized it sounded different after about 12".
ReplyDeleteYes...it has happened to me so much that now I have a sixth sense about it, and check frequently!
ReplyDeleteHave experienced that myself not quilting but sewing.
ReplyDeleteI do that too. So frustrating. When I sewed some summer dresses a few months ago, I "air-sewed" an entire side seam before realizing it. At least it wasn't a gathered sleeve!

Betsy
I've done that too....no fun at all.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! Especially when you've been chain piecing blocks in a certain order, and now they are all in a mixed up pile under the sewing desk and you have to lay them all out again!!!!
ReplyDeleteMom taught me to sew by sewing with no thread on paper as well. It wasn't until I could stay very close to the lines she drew that I was allowed to have thread and fabric!
Oh dear, yes, that's happened to me too!
ReplyDeleteI hate it when this happens -- and it happens far too often!
ReplyDeleteOH DEAR. THAT sounds maddening! Im sorry Nancy!
ReplyDeleteHa! I recall that when I did sew I did lots of air sewing, most likely a reason I do not sew:)
ReplyDeleteBeen there, done that and would prefer not to do it again.... although I probably will at some point!
