Close at Hand

knitting at the ready
August 2020

The table next to my chair is large enough to hold a couple of knitting projects. Currently, I have socks in the works, and they both are at the point of knitting the toes. At the end of the evening, all the projects are placed in a floor basket next to my chair. On the table or in the basket, they are always close at hand.

My eyes are often tired at night, so I frequently remove my glasses when knitting on the plain vanilla socks. This particular evening, I enjoyed a couple Atomic Fire Balls, purchased last year: they've aged well and are hotter than usual.

Do you have a "craft nest" by your favorite chair?

  1. No because my cats would make short work of it. I keep all my projects high on a shelf and then I have to go and retrieve them when I want to work on them which is a pain. When I was a kid our neighbor used to have tins of Fireballs and Sourballs on his bar. We used to sneak in and get some whenever we were playing over there. I haven't had either in ages. I used to love them.

  3. Yes I have a knitting basket close by but only one project and I haven't been too interested in it but hope to get back in it soon.

  4. I do have a little "nest" - all for hand stitching. It all sits on an end table next to the sofa where I usually sit in the evenings.

  5. I love Fireballs! My projects get put away when I am finished working on them. Mainly because I tend to knit or stitch at our table (where we eat). It's where I am most comfortable. I do have an area in my office with a basked of wool and projects nearby.

  6. Dennis jokes about the fact that I always have a nest next to my chair whether at home, (before we sold the house), or at the trailer. I use one of the three shelf carts from Michaels. IKEA has them too. On the top is my yarny things and a cup of pens. The second shelf holds my Bible and devotion books along with a word search book. The bottom shelf holds several projects I have in the works. I can also keep my phone and iPad on the shelf with my Bible. I like having everything together.
    Take care Nancy.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  8. Yes, I certainly do. Not on a table, but several bags on the floor beside my Lazyboy recliner. My knitting bag, and a big bag containing my hand quilting projects. Not at all tidy so I wont be sharing any photos

  9. Sort of yes, Nancy. I end up wherever I am knitting that night, with a pile of things nearby . it always takes me ten minutes to put it all away before I hit the sack. The cats wait for me to forget. And if I do...its not a pretty sight

  10. I have a basket that I tuck under the coffee table but mostly my crocheting is on the coffee table:) I have a basket for sock knitting and I knit at the dining room table where the light is better:)

  11. Yes, I'm a big fan of nesting. I keep a tray I found at Tuesday Morning years ago on the table beside by spot in the living room. It houses my current binding supplies and EPP.
It looks like more pretty socks are soon to be added to your sock drawer! I have to say that I think of you and smile every time I open mine!
The Fireballs made me smile too. DH took an Amazon-sized sack of Fireballs to Africa and shared them with the locals and our team. I was skeptical, but the fellas absolutely LOVED them.

  12. I try to put my projects away each evening. I’ve got a cabinet next to the tv that I can stash smaller projects. I tend to let things go too much so one day I wake up and realize I’ve got stuff all over the great room. I may not always be successful but I do try.
