Making Progress

Brenda's vehicle loaded with "stuff"
July 2018
Several of you have asked if the move is going smoothly, and I'm happy to report that everything is on schedule.

Brenda was here for the balloon rally, and she helped me start the purging and packing phase. She climbed on a step tool and cleared the top shelves in the garage. She helped me lug items out of the backyard shed. She advised me on what papers to put aside for shredding. She assisted in packing my fabric stash. We loaded her vehicle with "stuff" for donation and then loaded it with items that she wanted to take home. Some aunt I am: she came to see me for a vacation, and I put her to work. I honestly could not have managed without her help. Thanks, Brenda!
two extra rollouts from the city

I requested two large rollout dumpsters from the city, and for a few bucks they obliged. I packed them to the gills, not once, not twice, but three times!

I was grateful that all of my "stuff" found good homes. In addition to this pile, I got rid of a love seat, a recliner, a trundle bed, a cedar chest, and a dresser.
Dwight and Maria loaded their vehicle with "stuff" too

My nephew and his wife came by for an antique buffet, and I managed to persuade them to take even more. My bicycle, canning jars, camp stoves, and other assorted items went to live at their house.

You're probably wondering about the "That's WY" flag. It's the new tourism slogan for Wyoming (WY), but I thought it fit my purging process, too. Distance did not stop me from sharing the wealth of my "stuff." In June, my Noritake china was sent via my brother-in-law to my great-niece in Minnesota.
"stuff" piled in the front room

Not to worry, I still have plenty of "stuff" remaining and will probably have to purge again when I'm in the apartment.

I had several large plastic tubs and bins and some boxes, so the mover told me I could save money by packing things in them, and I did.

My "good" knee is speaking volumes to me, so I am going to let the movers pack the rest of the items. I still have a lot of loose ends to tie up with doctors, etc., so I'll stay busy until the movers show up on August 9th to pack.

I'm living amid chaos, but at least I'm making progress.

  1. You really find out who your friends are when you pack up an entire house for a move. I had to do my Dad's all alone. Needless to say there are a lot of relatives who don't get Christmas cards from me anymore! Lol...

  2. I really admire you, that is a big challenge to purge like that and a big job to move but think you are very wise. Glad things are going well.

  3. You have accomplished so much! I bet it feels good to purge a bit. I also think it's easier when things that have an emotional value are taken in by friends and relatives. Please do take it easy and let the movers do the rest...you don't want to be laid up as soon as you move in!

  4. Keep your eye on the prize (that's what I keep telling myself). We will both be so happy when we are settled in our new places.

  5. This too will pass! I'm looking forward nervously to our upcoming purge!

  6. The chaos of moving is really difficult, but looks like you've had some wonderful help. And it's always good to know that our "stuff" is going to good homes. You'll be happily settled into your new apartment before you know it.

  7. Isn’t it amazing how much “stuff” we managed to collect? I would love to purge and move into a smaller place. And then I look around me and everything I have seems to have a memory attached to it. None of our family really wants any of our stuff either. I’ve already given my good Wedding china to Mandy along with a few other family keepsakes as well. Take good care of that knee. You’ll need it when you move into your new spot. It looks like you’ve already done a lot so my advice would be to leave the rest of the movers. :-)
    Blessings, Betsy

  10. It always amazes me how much stuff we can accumulate! We did a huge purge when we moved here, and I've done another one in the 5 years since we've been here. And we still have tonnes of stuff. It doesn't help that Dave's picked up his Scottish grandma's habit of never tossing anything you might possibly be able to use one day!

  12. Oh, how wonderfully freeing to let stuff go to others! They will appreciate it and you will have room to keep the things that you actually use with you now! You've done an amazing job! Moving Day is getting close now!

  13. Great post full of great news! Yay Brenda for being so awesome and helpful can she come declutter me even if I'm not moving?

I'm glad everything is on schedule and the things are finding good new homes that cannot come with you. I'm even happier that you're listening to your body (knee) and taking care of it so you can enjoy the beginning of your new abode in good health!

  15. Well done...I'm impressed with how much you have accomplished. Good call on letting the movers tend to some of that. No need to overwork that knee! Moving always makes me wonder how on earth we accumulated so much 'stuff'. It is good to know that the things you no longer need are going to good homes. Before you know it, you will be beginning a new adventure. Thank you for popping in and giving us an update. I've been thinking of you.
