Resisting Temptation
crab apples Washington Park Laramie, WY August 2018 |
Several years ago, I picked crab apples from the trees surrounding the parking lot at Central Wyoming College (CWC). They made the best jelly.
Have you picked fruit from trees in public areas that was going to waste?
I say buy some canning jars!!!
ReplyDeleteI have not picked from public areas...other than various berries along paths. I'm disappointed that our apple crop this year will not be enough to even make one jar of applesauce!
We don't have trees like that here so no I haven't.
ReplyDeleteYes!!! We waste so very much in this world...yes, I would be very tempted!
ReplyDeleteI haven't, but my husband has picked apples from a tree on the golf course here. It's always loaded with small tart apples.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I ever came across was mulberries and a few very sad looking blackberries.
ReplyDeleteI once ate an orange from a tree in the "wild" --- not likely to do that again. It was SOUR!!!
I don't . I could. I pick the wild apples and pears from our own trees though. I feed them tothe horses . THey love them at the barn
ReplyDeleteI have picked apples here at the lake a few times, but I don’t can much anymore. I’ve given most of my canning jars away too. Blessings, Betsy
ReplyDeleteYes! I adore crab Apple jelly.
ReplyDeleteI used to make crab apple jelly when we had a tree at our old house. It was yummy. All my canning jars are used for dyeing wool or making soap!!
ReplyDeleteI've never canned. It seems like a ton of hot work!
ReplyDeleteMy Nanny used to take us to a place she called Apple Hill (just a park with some crab apple trees) and we'd pick them so she could make crabapple pie and crab apple jelly. There's were also several places with wild raspberries we'd pick for jam.
ReplyDeleteI've never thought to pick public fruit for canning but this would be tempting! I want to learn to make muscadine jelly soon!
ReplyDeleteWe usually have enough from the country roads! I heard the crabapples are ready...I have jars:) Not sure if I will have time or not! :)
ReplyDeleteNo, but it's tempting. Driving down our street yesterday, I noticed apples in the gutter; what a waste! You are reminding me I need to get busy and make some freezer jam!
