Coast to Coast

Saturday snowflakes drifted to the ground, and I didn't feel like doing anything too taxing, so I worked on a puzzle my niece gave me.

The 1,000 piece puzzle features the license plates for each state. Even though some of the plates are now different (Wyoming for one), I learned a bit as I assembled the puzzle. On this puzzle, the plates for two states (California and South Dakota) have a cursive font. Nebraska's plate featured Sandhill cranes in flight.

I was pleased when Wyoming ditched the image of Devil's Tower (shown on this puzzle) and replaced it with the Grand Tetons.

What do you like/dislike about your State's license plate(s)?

  1. I really liked the Texas plate that is shown on the puzzle. We currently have a newer design on our vehicle. It has a deep blue sky at the top. Evidently this color made it difficult for law enforcement to read the plate numbers quickly, especially in low light, so now Texas has changed the design again. The new plates are very simple and plain--boring, but functional.

  2. Guess I will have to take time to really look at our in order to answer your question...great job on the puzzle.

  3. The orange looks more like a peach. :-( Also, the white tag gets dirty and dingy looking pretty quickly.

The puzzle is cute. We usually do one over Christmas break. One year it was candy bars. That one was really hard.

  4. Colorado has always had green mountains against a white sky. Every other year the mountains were either short ones along the bottom or tall ones with a smaller amount of sky. Now that they are computer generated, the mountains have snow that is gray. Ugh, it looks like dirty snow.

  5. Our state license plate has changed since that puzzle too. What I hate about ours and maybe all states is that there are too many variations, and not just the personalized plates. Our state has gone to an all flat plate, no more raised numbers and letters. They all look fake now. lol

  6. Now that looks like a really fun puzzle. My family likes to work on a puzzle over Thanksgiving or Christmas, too, if the schedule is "laid back."

I like our license plate now much better than past versions.

  7. South Dakota has gone away from the cursive font and the green/gold color scheme. These were REALLY hard to read, as my brother-in-law the sheriff has often said. Now they are red/white/blue and much easier to read from a distance. Cool puzzle! I love puzzles.

  8. Well we live on Lincoln street so I love that we are Land of Lincoln and his face is on each license place. Al named her cat Lincoln. WE are kind of history buffs too.

  9. The light color looks dirty on the Minnesota Plate, I wish there were more colorful plates, like Lime Green and Pink, Purple..etc...we always look for the tourists plates in the summer. Iowa is a big one here and easily recognizable.

  11. That really is a neat puzzle. I haven't done a puzzle in years, maybe next winter when I'm stuck in the house I will give it a go.

  12. Texas still looks very much the same today, but Arizona is entirely different from the 1958 plate on my 1956 Chevy.

  13. Nothing wrong with Va's plates although ditto the statement of lots of different designs for the state. I love Maryland's new one celebrating Ft. McHenry. But, don't live in MD anymore.

  14. Neato! I'll just second Bonnie's motion. I like our plain ol' white with navy, standard plates, but there are dozens if not hundreds of options now.
