Back in Time - Dad
Art near Pavillion, WY approx. 1939 or 1940 |
This photo of my Dad was taken in front of my Uncle Ted's house. My Dad and Mom and two oldest brothers lived with my Uncle Ted until Dad was able to purchase his own farm in the Wind River Valley.
I only remember seeing my Dad in a suit a few times, usually at weddings and funerals, but he wore a fedora often whenever he was away from the farm.
After Mom died, my oldest sister had three teddy bears made from one of Mom's old dresses, and three more bears were dressed in a vest and a tie made from one of our father's neckties.
He looks quite dapper in his suit. Also, I like the way his back is reflected in the window behind him.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful keepsakes, I would have never thought of it.
ReplyDeleteHe DOES look quite dapper. The young men of today could learn a lesson or two about looking nice when you leave the house.
ReplyDeleteLOL - dapper seems to be the word for your Dad. That's exactly what came to mind when I first saw your photo. I love the jaunty angle of his hat. Now I want to sit and browse through old photos and write down all the stories.
ReplyDeleteYour dad looks great in that hat. Hats were evidently the style for both men and women of that generation. Love seeing how they dressed up for church, and other social events. My father-in-law always wore a cowboy hat, but my dad almost never wore a hat. You are inspiring your readers to start looking at their own family photos.
ReplyDeleteI love the photo, and your commentary really helps bring the picture to life.
ReplyDeleteYes, he looks very dapper! My dad used to wear a fedora when he dressed up too. He often called it his "smart-aleck" hat. He'd wear it cocked to the side, and he sure looked like a guy with attitude,. Ha.
ReplyDeleteHe was clearly what was known as a "natty dresser." I love the idea of making teddy bears out of family clothing! I am a great believer that everyone should have a teddy bear and what could be better than one dressed in a loved one's clothes.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool idea!! I have never heard of taking the dress to make teddy bear outfits! and the tie too! Great thought Nancy> no one will want my dress. It was goofy; I don't know why I chose it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat idea. Your dad was very handsome.
ReplyDeleteI love how they dressed in those days, and dressed up for every occasion. Neat photo.
ReplyDeleteVery handsome! That is a great idea about the Teddy Bears! What a treasure these old photo are!!:)
ReplyDeleteDapper is the word that came to mind for me too. The Knight has a teddy bear made from his grandfather's flannel shirt.
