Vintage Knitting

Late summer is traditionally a time for local fairs, and this year is the 100 anniversary of the Fremont County Fair.

To celebrate the anniversary, the Fremont County Fiber Guild is encouraging members to select a vintage pattern (over 50 years old) and to make something for a special display. Guild members may enter two vintage-inspired items for a "People's Choice" award.

I want to eventually use whatever I knit, so this pattern, which the site states is from an unknown Australian newspaper (1940s to 1950s), was selected.

Needles: two circulars - size 1
Thread: 100% cotton (number 20)

  2. Great idea! I remember my grandmother making so MANY of these when I was a kid. They had the funniest name ....antimacassers.

I think doily was a much easier name to say. LOL

  4. That is something different! Oh I love it! The pattern is so delicate and pretty, it will probably take some time though (at least it would for me).

  7. Wow! I did not even THINK that one could KNIT a doily! I've done several with crochet and tatting, but certainly had not considered knitting. Really beautiful pattern, and I know yours will be absolutely lovely!

  11. Wouldn't it be wonderful if that doily could grow into a circular shawl?

  13. So pretty!! I love doilies and sadly don't have even one. My mother loved to crochet and had them all over the house. I don't crochet because it hurts my hands, but I love to knit with crochet cotton!
