Fair and Square

Mitered Square Baby Blanket
31 inches
When I found two skeins of Red Heart Super Saver yarn (Off-White and Denim) in my yarn bin, I decided to knit a large mitered-square baby blanket. I knit four rows with each yarn until it ran out and then switched to another skein of off-white yarn.

Size 8 needles
I cast on 252 stitches and placed a marker at 126 stitches. On the right side, I knit to within two stitches of the marker, knit those two stitches together, slip marker, slip, slip, knit (SSK), and knit to the end of the row. Wrong side row - knit all stitches.

Mother Nature is not playing fair today. Isn't it supposed to be SPRING

  1. One day maybe I'll get around to trying a mitered square.

Snow in May just seems wrong.

  2. I have never done a mitered square before, I just might have to try it some day. I'm so sorry about the snow :( Yesterday we had 80's in town and 70's on the ridge here and now it's in the 50's.

  3. Well, how fun is that! You come up with the most interesting projects. And hey, this mitered square baby blanket is the knitting version of "modern quilting," right? (SK)

With the snow, you can finish today!

  7. Hmm, I thought the saying was, "April showers bring May flowers," not "April showers bring snow showers." At least you can do your knitting without having to worry about gardening. Hope spring arrives before summer!

  8. So sorry about your lousy weather!! It is getting colder in Texas today too (but not like there) so I'm busy covering the vegetable plants I bought before I can even get them into the ground and bringing in my seedlings. Strange!!

I love the baby blanket! Thanks for the instructions. I think I will start one for our June baby tonight.

  9. I really like this blanket, Nancy!! I'm even tempted to make one, putting it in my queue. It would be wonderful if I could use up some left-overs in my stash; it's worth checking out.

Yeah, how about this May 1st moisture??!! Dave D. said we got about 6 inches out here. Things ought to green up beautifully when we get sun again!

  10. I love that blanket. I don't think I've ever seen squared corners like that before but I love it. Do you make all four corners and then stitch them together? You sure do make me want to learn to knit.
