Holiday Preparations

holiday wreath by my door
Laramie, WY
December 2021

The only holiday decorations I have displayed are two wreaths - one on the front door and one outside the front door.

A rural fire department sells Christmas trees and wreaths on a vacant lot in West Laramie every year for a fund-raiser. By chance, I drove by the lot last week and stopped to look at the wreaths. The lady who made them was there and offered to fluff the bow while I was at the payment window. I like the simplicity of this wreath, and hopefully, it will last for several weeks.

I'm still debating if I want to put up a tree. I wouldn't have to do much because it is small and zipped in a vinyl bag in the garage. The tree is decorated, so all I'd have to do is plug it in and fluff some of the branches. Maybe it will see the light or day, and maybe it will not.

Three holiday cards have arrived in the mail. I love reading the notes that accompany them. Have you noticed that boxed Christmas cards are becoming harder and harder to find?

  2. Very pretty wreath! I am relieved that I am not in charge of decorations this year, just being an assistant works for me:)

  3. Love the wreath Nancy - so pretty. Love the simplicity of it. I did not have trouble finding cards this year - plenty at various stores I had visited. I think we will go with a small table top tree this year given the fact that Mabel is into EVERYTHING!!

  4. I like to get cards but am a stinker the last few years about sending my own! I have only put up the tree-no decorations-and put out a table runner. I don't know why it is so hard this year?! Your wreath looks great!

  5. The wreath is lovely, and it should last at least through January. I also think the simplicity of it is what makes it so pretty. I like my house decorated for the holiday, but have really struggled with getting it accomplished this year. Maybe it's time for me to cut back. LOL

  6. Your wreath is lovely! I was just admiring the ones they have for sale at our little local artisan market. They are really beautiful this year and you can watch the girl make them. I could never find Christmas cards I liked so that's one of the reasons I started making my own. I used to love going out and selecting my cards but then the cards got cheap and tacky and I was always coming home empty handed.

  7. That is such a pretty wreath. In Spokane we used to buy a wreath from a teen at our church who sold them for a fundraiser. They had four kids so someone was always selling wreaths! I've missed it this year and don't have one at all. I think next year, if I remember, I ask around and see where I can buy one that will give to a good cause.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  8. I havent seen a wreath made from real greenery before, the smell must be divine. I have a wreath on our door, an artificial one, which looks nice and festive. I have some Christmas quilts out and some favourite decorations. Dont do a tree, as we are always away from home having a caravan trip for several weeks.

  10. Hum, nope didn’t notice that boxed cards are hard to find. We got ours at the end of November but I haven’t done anything with them. Maybe over the weekend.
