Zapped
My niece and sister came to Laramie from the Denver area to shuttle me back and forth to Fort Collins for the surgery. I appreciated Brenda's help and grateful she offered since it was well out of her way and cut into her schedule.
Nearly twenty years ago I had LASIK surgery, so I had experienced laser eye surgery before and wasn't too apprehensive about the procedure.

My eye was dilated and numbed with eye drops. The surgery was painless (I didn't feel a thing): I was lightly sedated but conscious. I arrived at the surgical center at 6 AM and left the building with a new lens and an eye patch at 7:30 AM. By 10:30 AM, the eye patch was removed, and my vision was somewhat clear and has improved each day. I marvel how advanced technology has made cataract surgery painless for the patient.
Three different kinds of eye drops are required three times each day for two weeks, and then one drop daily for four more weeks.
I had a followup appointment with my optometrist the day after surgery and another one today.
Everyone told me that colors would be brighter after surgery, and to some extent they are. Reading glasses are necessary for close work because I opted for a distance vision intraocular lens (IOL). If you are contemplating cataract surgery, talk to your optometrist about the type of lens that is best for you.
Have your eyes been "zapped?"
Very interesting! I'm so glad you could get the help you needed--with family love, there is no such thing as inconvenient! I'm glad it went well--I had no idea that you could opt for different lens options! Good info! Here's to clear vision--it's priceless!
ReplyDeleteYup! Both of my eyes were zapped for cataracts about 4 years ago. And it really was very painless and easy. My right eye has developed a film that needs additional zapping, but I've been putting it off during the pandemic. Guess it's time to get that taken care of.
ReplyDeleteI too had the surgery last year and boy did things look brighter!! It almost hurt because it was so bright but I have adjusted and everything seems normal now.
ReplyDeleteI took my dad to get his zapped. The only lasers things I have done are to check out my waffly retinas from time to time when I start having lots of flashies and floaties.
ReplyDeleteYes I have been zapped! Be diligent with those drops! I found everything much brighter! Use Sunglasses!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad all went well for you. I, too, had LASIK surgery and enjoyed several years of no glasses. Now I have bifocals and the beginnings of cataracts. I didn't know that you had a choice of lenses. I like you you give us so much information in your posts. I always learn so much from you. I guess once a teacher, always a teacher. :-)
ReplyDeleteBlessings and love,
Betsy
My mom had the same surgery a two years ago now - she'd worn glasses since the age of 10, and suddenly at 60 she didn't need them any more! We were all amazed with how quick and easy it was. She actually just had to go back this spring and get "tuned up". Apparently some people get a bit of a haze afterwards, but it's easily cleaned up.
ReplyDeleteAh — that explains fewer blog posts last week. I am jealous. As my doctor has said for years my cataracts aren’t ripe. I think it would be great except I worry about close up vision. I often take my glasses off to read ... time will tell.
