Test Drive

May 2021

Last week, I was notified that my sewing machine was repaired ready to pick up. Several weeks ago, the feed dogs refused to pull the fabric through, and the stitches bunched up and the thread knotted. Of course, my machine didn't act up when the technician ran it through its paces, but it was thoroughly cleaned and oiled and given a clean bill of health.

Making Ritzy Cracker blocks with patriotic fabrics from the 5 inch square scrap bin seemed a good way to test the machine and also eliminate some scraps. The machine is running well, and my fingers are crossed that a good cleaning resolved the issues.

  2. Oh, good! A blob of dust in the wrong spot can be ruinous! Glad you are back at the stitching!

  3. Those will be awesome blocks.

I always dread taking my machine in for repairs or a tune up. But it's time to take my main machine in. Thanks for the reminder!!

  4. I'm glad it wasn't anything more serious, (and expensive), for your machine and that it's running well now. I really like your bobbin holder. Do you remember where you found it?

  6. I don't know anything about those machines, but for someone who quilts as much as you do, you deserve a great one!

  9. That's why I buy cheap machines. When they act up they get donated and I get another. I don't do enough fancy stitching to justify anything better and I would dread having to deal with repair people. As soon as I opened my mouth they would know that I know nothing about sewing machines.

  10. I hate it when sewing machines (or cars) don’t perform for repair people, ie, make funny noises, or whatever it’s doing that demands a spa day. I hope it wasn’t gone too long.
