Back in Time - Brothers

Four brothers - Ted, Ed, Art, Charles
near Provo, SD
My Dad (second from the right) had three brothers and one sister and grew up on a farm near Provo, South Dakota. The farm/ranch is now being worked by Ed's grandson and is an official Century Farm (managed by one family for at least 100 years) More about the farm's history can be found here.

My Dad and his oldest brother Ted moved to central Wyoming in the 1930s. They were eager to farm irrigated land, in the developing Midvale Irrigation District. Ed stayed on the family farm, Charles started a sheep ranch near Provo, and Sadie and her husband operated a ranch south of Provo.

  1. That is so cool that it is an official Century Farm (I've never heard of those previously). Also interesting how all remained in the farming business - one way or another. I really enjoy the old photographs you share with us.

  2. That's a lot of history you've got going on there! All of my family came in through VA in the early 1600's and pretty much stayed right here. No pioneers or adventurers in the lot.

  3. It's interesting that they all stayed in the farming/ranching life. A good lifestyle and showing that pioneer spirit.

  4. Thank you for your picture. It brought back wonderful memories of the tales my mother told of living on the Black Hills Ordnance Depot during the war as a teenager.

  7. I have never heard of century farms either. That is really neat. And I find it very interesting that everyone stayed in farming. It shows that you have a family full of hard workers.

  8. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. A sheep ranch you say? That sounds like a pretty good thing for a knitter to have in the family. LOL
