Travel Treasure: before and after

before
wrap around batik skirt
circa 1970s - 80s
Readers may remember the wrap around batik skirt that I disassembled to salvage the fabrics. That skirt has been transformed into . . .

five 18 inch batik table mats
and . . .
two rectangular table mats
The longarm quilter called last week and said the mats were finished. I was eager to see them finished, so I trimmed and added a golden batik binding. The skirt and fabric have found a new use, and I'm happy about that.

  3. They turned out beautiful and you will enjoy using them instead of having the fabric just hang in your closet.

    Good job!

  4. What a beautiful way to use the fabric. They turned out so very nice. Every time you look at them you'll have a memory of where you purchased the skirt and the times associated with that. Well done!

  5. A true transformation. You have a great mind for recrafting Nancy. That was too pretty a fabric to do away with for sure

  6. Great way to repurpose old fabric. I have a stack of it beside my sewing machine and your post made me realize that I need new placemats. Your table mats are beautiful!

  8. Sewing is such a wonderful art! I admire those who take the time. One of my favorite quilts is the one my mom made for me. She took the old jeans my husband wore, my dad, and even some from the kids and cut them into squares. She stitched the squares together and placed the batting and backing on to it. She had tied the yarn at the intersections of the squares (not sure what that is called) to keep the batting in line with the front and back. Wonderful memories! thanks.
