Before They Disappear - Pay Phone
Pay Phone Douglas, WY June 2013 |
I wanted to photograph a pay phone before they completely disappear, but I didn't realize just how rare they are.
My community does not have any pay phones (at least that I've found), so I was excited to spot this one in Douglas on my way home from Denver. It actually had a dial tone and a current phone book.
Does your community still have pay phones? If so, you'd better snap a photo before they disappear.
I haven't seen a payphone in YEARS!
ReplyDeleteI don't think there are many left in our area. I believe the ones I've seen are at gas stations/convenience stores. I remember when I was young, checking the coin return for money people left behind. It was always a thrill to find some.
ReplyDeleteThere may be some at a gas station or so but not many...
ReplyDeletewe saw pay phones at the tip of half Dome in Yosemite last year. Getting lots of use too.....
ReplyDeleteIm amused when I see them at gas stations....that is mostly where they have lasted.
My poor Granny Nana had the toughest time when they went automated.....she liked a REAL operator to assist her...
Good point. I'll have to look around; I'm not sure of the last time I saw one.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got a photo of this one. They are not a common sight anymore!
ReplyDeleteGosh... I don't know that we do still have payphones. I can remember when they were back by the restrooms in a lot of restaurants...
ReplyDeleteThe kids that come through the museum have no idea why you would need a pay phone:)
ReplyDeleteHeck, pay phone and a current phone book? You hit nirvana!
ReplyDeleteWow! If you do happen to find one here, there is never a phone book....
