Knitting Like the Wind . . .

Diversity

Image
Diversity 61 x 74 inches Quilt of Valor #196 This quilt was finished on MLK day, so I thought it was fitting to name it Diversity. It was made from red and blue 10" squares cut from scraps of other Quilts of Valor. The beige fabric was left over backing fabric from several other QOV.  I'm working on another version of this pattern where the red and blue placement is reversed. The rows are sewn, but I need to sew the rows together into the top.  I like the impact of this pattern and the simplicity of the design and construction.

Knit-worthy Friends

Image
Cowgirl Yarn knitting group January 2021 Bernie even made an appearance in Laramie last week. He was spotted on the Cowgirl Yarn Facebook page just hanging out with friends.  Bernie knows the benefit of a good pair of wooly mittens: he's definitely "knit-worthy"

A Quick Comeback

I'm sure this would work for yarn or fabric purchases, too.

Back in Time - Kitchen Chores

Image
Nancy and Rosa S. mid 1980s I'm pretty sure my brother, Rich took this photo of Mom and me at the kitchen sink. It looks like we are peeling potatoes and preparing for the next meal. Since the Christmas salt and pepper shakers are on the shelves, I'd say the photo was taken in November or December.  Several generations of babies were bathed in the sink, and numerous stacks of dishes and pot/pans were washed in it over the years.

Silver Linings - an Update

Image
Silver Linings hat in progress January 2020 The Silver Lining hat ( started in December ) is progressing at a steady rate. It's mindless knitting, round and round in helical stripes. The color change is the opposite end of the double-sided hat. I love how the two self-striping yarns are creating an interesting design at this end. I need to knit about four more inches before I can start the decreasing. Hopefully, this project will be finished by the end of the month.

Fireside Knitting

Image
I found a great fireplace video on YouTube that I've been using on chilly and windy afternoons. The video has a 10 hour loop without advertisements, so I can comfortably knit away the afternoon. Many fireplace videos have music, but this one is just the sound of flames and popping logs. I love it!

Think About It . . .

If this image - - -  bothered you more than this image - - - it's time to ask yourself, "Why"

Dear Congress . . .

Arnold Schwarzenegger released an amazing video message yesterday: it's worth watching and sharing.

Stash Enhancement

Image
five skeins of new sock yarn When I took my shawl into the local yarn shop for blocking, I discovered a "new to me sock yarn" and fell in love with the rich colors and the reasonable price.  Queensland Perth sock yarn  100 gr ball - 437 yards I purchased Great Barrier Reef (122), Redcliffe City (119), Gold Coast (114), Port Pirie (120), and Alpine Shire (117). Each ball was $13.50 which I thought was very reasonable for the yardage and a super wash wool with nylon. I haven't cast on a project yet, but at least one of these balls will become a pair of socks.  Have you tried Queensland Perth sock yarn?

Lucky Mistake

Image
I love this blur of color - a photo of my Christmas tree mistakenly snapped by my phone camera. I think it's a good reminder that even mistakes can be beautiful.

American Snapshots

Image
American Snapshots 64 x 70 inches Quilt of Valor #195 American Snapshots started with a stack of bonus, blue/white HSTs, enough to make 21 pinwheel blocks. I raided my scrap bins for more blue white to sew 24 more. The alternate blocks are squares, cut from two panels that Jean F. sent this summer. I framed them with red to bring them up to the size of the pinwheels.  the scrap HSTs provided nearly half of the necessary pinwheel blocks for American Snapshots I could have finished this quilt before the end of the year, but I didn't have the motivation, so American Snapshots is officially the first QOV for 2021.
