My travels indicated by the black line
I had the opportunity to see much of Japan in the two years I worked for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DODDS). I toured Japan by car, by train, by plane, and by ship. My travels took me to the northern island of Hokkaido and the tiny island chain south of the main island of Honshu and Kyushu. As the map indicates, I did not see much of western Japan.

Even though the world is a much different place now, I am confident that what I loved about Japan has not changed: the culture is based on traditions, observed for centuries.

    It's pretty cool to see your route of travel in Japan. You saw quite a bit! And the pictures you've shared show how lush and beautiful it is.

    Those little islands in the south are a mystery to me. I would love to see them. The Japanese traditions remind me of the Native American traditions I grew up with in Yuma, Arizona. Most of them are beautiful and life changing.

    Last month our son went to Japan. He learned how to speak Japanese before he went there. He brought back a soap that looks like a slice of Cheese cake and one that looks like Cinnamon doughnut.

    You sure did get around and take advantage of the opportunity to see the country. You must have had a fabulous experience! Did you learn to speak Japanese?
