I Don't Have a Clue

The Architecture of Civility
by David Reif (2015)
located in a courtyard north of Albany County Courthouse
2022

I seriously do not have a clue about this sculpture. It's interesting and has a LOT of things to see and to ponder. I'll let you decide what you think about it.

What are your thoughts?

  1. I would ask a child. Don't you just love the colors?

  3. Perhaps an attempt to be all things to all people?

  4. This is interesting...not sure what it has to do with "civility" but I do like it. Fun colors and lots to look at.

  5. Interesting indeed! Building/construction vs agriculture. Locks on things, hands reaching, the numbers. Lots of things to think about.

  6. Sorry, but I find it a bit too "all over the place" for my taste. Is it to do with housing being damaged by natural disasters perhaps?

  7. Nope. I'm not a modern art fan at all. I prefer things that you know what they are. Someone is bound to love it though. :-)

  8. My first thought was a Tornado...or the Wizard of Oz. :)

  9. I would enjoy studying it but I'm not good at looking for subtle meanings! Very interesting, though!

  10. Interesting. Perhaps the idea that civility is something different to everyone and/or that it is hard to define? I don't know much about art - obviously.

  11. You sure have interesting art work in your area!

  12. Hum, I first thought it was a weird bird house. The birds wouldn't mind all the things going on in the piece. As for meaning -- eh, it was before the pandemic so there goes thoughts of things have gotten really wonky during and since then. So my guess is as good as anyone else's. Maybe just to start people talking about the various teases of ideas it presents urban vs rural, water use?, people stepping up. It would be interesting to hear what he says about it.
