Oh My, Stars!

A local gentleman is a volunteer longarmer for Quilts of Valor (QOV) and was assigned by the national coordinator to quilt my latest batch of quilts. I gave him five QOV on Friday, January 20, 2017, and he called me on Sunday, January 22, 2017 and said they were ready to pick up. I was shocked that he quilted all five of them in such a short time. I wasn't expecting them for at least a week.

Yikes, now I had to get to work. Trimming went quickly, and the binding was made and ready to attach. The slowest part will be hand-tacking the binding, a task I dread.

  1. I love that you make such beautiful quilts for the cause. My son received a quilt as he returned to the states after his Humvee hit a landmine in Baghdad in 2006. It was made with love.

  2. WOW! I would love to be that dedicated and turn around quilts that fast. But, no, not going to happen. I like to piece and quilt so I'm always making those kinds of decisions. Now the not so fun part (at least for me) the binding.

  3. That is a speedy quilter! Having 5 bindings waiting would overwhelm me. I'm kind of slow at the binding process.

  5. When we were present for our friend Larry's getting his quilt, a man was part of the group. I loved that men contribute and are welcomed. Seems like lots of work can get done in the cold and snowy winter. So that's one good thing about it!

  6. WOW! That gentleman is certainly fast. I think the binding process is my least favorite of quilt making so having five waiting would certainly overwhelm me. :-)

  7. I think we've found the man who hires Santa's elves during the off season. That's a lot of quilts and a lot of work for you to finish but such a worthy cause!!

  9. As a newbie quilter, tacking the binding is the one part I feel confident about!

  10. Oh, my goodness...you will be stitching in your sleep! If I were closer, I would love to stitch the bindings as I enjoy doing so.
