Posing on the Prairie

Gottleib Eberle family 1912, Edgemont, SD

My maternal grandparents hired a photographer to visit their homestead so they could show relatives in Russia how well they were doing in the New World. Note the display of farm produce, game, horses, buggy, and farm equipment. My grandparents were Germans who moved to Russia and then eventually to America. Both my grandmother and grandfather became American citizens and had eight children (four boys and four girls), five of which are shown in this photo. My mother was born after this photo was taken.

  1. That's a great photo! I've seen similar farm photos before of families with their animals, equipment and such and used to wonder why all the extra things were included. Now I have a better understanding.

  5. That is such a wonderful photo, and I'm glad your ancestors were able to come to America and be prosperous. I'm glad, too, that they had someone to take the picture.
I left a comment on your baby blanket post.
Loved the idea about giving flowers to men & your recycling post. I save my magazines for DIL's church - they have a mission to have "sleepovers" for homeless women during the hottest month & the coldest month of the year, and magazines, socks, toiletries, etc. are collected for these women.
