Near Its Inspiration

This photo of Thomas Moran's The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone does not do the painting justice. The detail and color on this imposing canvas are truly stunning.

The painting is on loan from the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. You can read about its installation in Cody, WY here.

Cody, WY is near the East Entrance of Yellowstone National Park and within an hour and half drive from the scene depicted on the canvas.

  1. I've been to Yellowstone only once and only for a day. We did not make it to the GCoY, but I'd like to go back and see it one day.

  2. I've been to the canyon in the painting. It was the most breath - taking place I've ever seen!!! I feel in love with Cody,Wy. on that visit out west. I'm possibly going to be in WY.,next July with my son on a cattle drive,90 miles west of Larime I think?
