Returning to "Normal"
Nearly every Thursday afternoon I join a group of friends at the local senior center to play Mexican Train dominoes. The center was closed for much of the pandemic and only opened full time a year ago. Gradually, each week more seniors come to play. Last week fourteen individuals played together (two tables of seven). Before the pandemic, we had two full tables playing every week.
Have people in your community returned to pre-pandemic activities? Have you?
What fun! Glad you can get back to that as I know you enjoyed that game in the past. Our lives are pretty much as they were pre-pandemic except that I don't go to the office (yay) and we mask up when going to the grocery store, etc. We are not ones who go out to eat a lot, so no change there. And...we are planning a Spring trip to the South which should be lovely.
ReplyDeleteThat would be fun. My card group plays dominos occasionally as a change up. The senior center here went back to normal activities about a year ago too, and I think they are pretty much back to the numbers they saw before. Our library here had a really nice community room that was available free to non-profit groups. Our guild met there each month. But they began using that meeting room to "disinfect" books, etc as they were returned. And it's still not available for meetings like before. There is a new library director too, so maybe that is part of the change. Our guild moved to a church.
ReplyDeleteThere is a dominoes group that meets here every Tuesday afternoon but it is while I"m crocheting sleeping mats for the Mission so I haven't been able to go.
ReplyDeleteOur lives are pretty much as they were before the pandemic. We only mask up when required in Dr. offices or if we're ill, going out in public.
Our church, both here and in Spokane are still not up to pre-pandemic attendance. I think some people got out of the habit. I also notice a lot more casual dressing out and about. PJ's in Walmarts, gas stations, etc.
I'm glad we're back to normal, whatever that is!
Blessings,
Betsy
It looks to us like everything has returned to normal here. We are still doing pick up and take out only. We are the only people we know that haven't had Covid yet and it's been a challenge to stay that way. I've seen what it can do and I don't want it so I am still very cautious around others. We are approaching the six month mark on our last booster without the ability to get another just at the same time The Mister is having his hip surgery. We've already been warned that he goes to the back of the line at the surgery center with a potential six month wait if either of us even get so much as a cold so we're now being extra careful. No Easter for us again this year. This make year four. Sigh....
ReplyDeleteI love playing Mexican Train! No we have not returned back to normal...I doubt that we ever will as long as Covid is still around...the non vax people did us no favors as we were hoping for herd immunity but that did not happen. We miss going to woodcarving but the room is small. We are looking forward to summer because we can gather outdoors again. Our circle is pretty small and everyone is good to tell us if they are not feeling well and stay away from us. :)
ReplyDeleteI love playing Mexican train, always play it with the grandchildren when they come here or we go to their home. Things seem to be getting back to normal here as far as meeting for events or programs.
ReplyDeleteInteresting question. We are pretty well back to normal. We are in two singing groups and for the most part we are unmasked. Some of us mask up especially if word is out about Covid among us. We have had rehearsal canceled also. If we have something important coming along and we don't want to bring Covid with us we'll mask up for a few weeks before the event. We've been going out for meals and traveling to nearby cities. On the other hand we check the state Covid maps before we go. I did attend a quilt retreat in Oct where a goodly number of us came down with Covid. From what I heard none of us had bad cases. We'll be traveling internationally in June so it'll be interesting to see how that is. Fingers crossed for a great trip. Our club house is fully opened with lots of people attending events.
ReplyDeleteThings are mostly normal here, but there's a lot of businesses that didnt make it through the pandemic, which is sad.
ReplyDeleteWe are not quite back to normal pre-pandemic but I don't know if we ever will be. As prices go up, we have been eating out much less often. We attend church without masks. We weren't out at big venues much before so that isn't a big deal for us. When we fly, we mask up. Sometimes if the Covid numbers in the county are increasing, I mask up in the grocery stores. Call me weird, but I also wear a mask in public restrooms. Now I'm going to go look up the domino game. I've not heard of it.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun for all of you! For the most part, things are back to normal except they never will be because we all know of people who have succumbed to Covid or it has changed their life permanently!
