The Social Dilemma - a recommendation

If you regularly use FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, TikTok, and other social media sites, I recommend taking the time to watch The Social Dilemma which is available on Netflix. It's a docu-drama that is well written, presented, and produced: I highly recommend it. It includes interviews from several individuals who helped develop the various social media platforms. After watching this presentation, I guarantee you will not look at social media the same and may even delete your accounts.

  1. I get a bit disturbed after watching shows like this--we need the info, we have no idea of the manipulation we are in the center of! But we have become addicted....

  2. Not sure I will watch...I occasionally look at FB (but don't post) and the same for IG No accounts with the others. Thanks for the heads up though.

  3. My daughter keeps telling me to watch it. I saw an interview with the film maker that was very scary. I deleted Facebook completely after the 2016 election. Twitter gives me panic attacks so it's off the table now too. I stick to only knitting and craftsy channels on You Tube which I admit I am addicted to. Without them I would be very lonely.

  5. Social media is like candy. If that is all you eat, you're going to get mighty sick. But, in moderation, it is good fun.

Is there manipulation by the makers? Probably. But, in the end we are all responsible for our own actions.

I don't know where I would have been through lockdown without something to occupy my time.

  6. I watched it awhile back after Mandy recommended it. She hibernated her FB account for several months and now checks it only rarely, mainly using it for messenger to keep up with friends and family, kind of like texting.
I have an IG account but haven't looked at it in months. Technology is scary to me too. If you have a smart phone, "they" pretty much know everything about you anyway.
    Blessings,
