Clutter Control

lots of binding ready for pressing
February 2019
Saturday, I tackled the mess in my sewing room because it was impossible to get anything done. The cutting table was covered with numerous bins, piles of scraps, and stacks of books. Once the fabric was sorted and returned to the shelves in the closet, I began with the scraps. Small pieces were cut into sizes I use and placed neatly in bins. Larger scraps were cut into 2.5 inch strips for future bindings.

I often use the backing scraps to bind quilts. One nice thing about using the same backing fabric for several quilts is a LOT of strips for binding. The blue fabric strips in the photo will provide binding for at least two quilts. I press the strips in half and roll them on cardboard, so they are ready to attach when I receive quilts back from the longarmer.

The cutting table and pressing board are clutter-free, the fabric is all stored away, and I've started a new project.

  4. I just did a big clean up in my downstairs craft room and it took all day. I played as much as I sorted!

  5. Your sewing room sounds like mine! Mine doubled as my work office, so I can't let it get too out of hand, but it's amazing how messy it can get in a short period of time. I usually have to do a clean up on Monday mornings before I can sit with my lap top to work. My weekends get very messy!

  6. I can’t stand clutter when I’m trying to work. I like everything put away and in its place. Unfortunately, when the kids were small none of them felt the same. It always seemed I spent half of my time looking for supplies that we’re out of place. Congrats on getting everything back in order and ready to go.
    Blessings, Betsy

  7. When can you come over and declutter me? Pack a big suitcase.

  8. Great job! I need help getting myself organized again because I keep getting distracted when I tackle it. And the clutter is beginning to weigh on me again.

  9. Over the last two weeks I’ve made some inroads on the stuff that mounds on my cutting table. I get bogged down thinking I need to cut into sizes — squares mostly. So I’ve grabbed some medium size gift/shopping bags and written color names on them. I was able to declutter a lot with just blue, white, green, red, yellow and black. Once I find more bags (orange, purple, brown come to mind) I’ll get more put away. And I’m actually delving deeply in the red bag for fabs for some improv blocks. Hopefully this will be a better solution then my two huge containers filled with all colors.

  10. I don't like clutter either although I am responsible for most of it here. I try to declutter before bed. Fireman is the morning person and I like him to come down to a nice clean area. Im the evening person who clutters it all up

  12. Doesn't a good tidy-up feel GREAT?

I did my knitting notions drawer and my two stash closets while Steve was out on a fire call Sunday night. It kept me busy and my mind off worrying. LOL
