Adopting a UFO

unfinished quilt kit
from LeAnn H. in CA
December 2018
Last week I received a box from LeAnn H. in California. She contacted me in July and asked if I would be interested in finishing one of her quilting UFOs (unfinished project) for a Quilt of Valor. I accepted her generous offer, but told her that I was moving and things would be unsettled for a bit, so she agreed to send the package later.

The UFO included five finished blocks, fabric (cut and separated for individual blocks), and the pattern. It is a treat to have everything cut and ready to sew. I will be adding some red and blue fabrics to the kit to make it brighter and more patriotic.

The package also included some additional fabric and two large orphan blocks. I will turn the orphan blocks into doll quilts and donate them and a couple of dolls to the local Toys for Tots drive next December.

LeAnn, thank you for allowing me to adopt your UFO project to make a Quilt of Valor.

  2. Be careful -- you never know when more people will send you UFO's next! But I love the idea of spreading UFO's around -- I'll have to see what is on my list and see if any are appropriate for a QOV. I know I have 1 or 2 nearly done that will go to TAPS -- for kids of deceased service members. But I might have something I'm willing to spread around!

  3. So nice that the fabric that was just "sitting" will be put into a good project. Have fun stitching up this very special quilt.

  5. Just look at the teamwork the crafting community has! LeAnn with fabric she didn’t know what to do with, and you, the master QOV maker to put it all together. I just love how we can all work together to make something wonderful.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  6. I think you are doing her a favor. UFOs weigh on us crafters. I'd love to have some angel finish up a number of my knitting projects!
