Back in Time - a story prompt

John S. and farm cat
South Dakota
approximately 1934
This photo makes me wonder what happened next - did my oldest brother pet the cat? Did the cat run away or stand its ground? Were there tears?

When I was teaching, I often used photographs as prompts for writing assignments. One observation can ignite a story.

  2. Oh I love this photo. I've decided the cat came over and sat down, and let your brother pet him a couple of times and then ran away "insulted" as cats do ... :-)

  3. John looks like he was quite gentle with the cat. I'm guessing the story had a HAPPY ending.

  5. I loved using photos as writing prompts. My story is that the cat s
Leaned in for more petting and purred her contentment.

  6. Are there screens on those windows? Zach lives in a home in mexico with no screens. Bats. lizards and many chewing bugs visit him ...Im grateful for screens!

  8. I would like to say that the sweet little boy was going to pet the cat and the cat would snuggle with the boy because he is so adorable and lovable. BUT I really think he is about to pull that cat's ear and cause a war to break out resulting in not only tears but maybe a little blood as well.

  9. Yes it looks like he will gently pet the cat and then...it will be joined by another kitten who is jealous of the attention! :) Lovely old photo!
