The temple (Wat Traimit) which houses the Golden Buddha has been rebuilt since the tour I took in 1979. The building then was somewhat nondescript, yet a bit ornate.

As seen in this photo, the new building is by far more elaborate.

  5. I think what amazes me about these buildings is how intricate the work is. They did it without all the computer programmed plans and power tools that we have today.

    I like the blue and gold detail on the old building.

  7. It's incredible but I can't believe they put that building on the same footprint as the old temple. Did they have to clear a whole block to build it? I wonder if they used any (or all) of the beautiful decorations from the original building.
