Slip, Sliding Away

I practically need ice skates cross the street and retrieve my mail. My mailbox (by the pine trees in this photo) is at the end of the dead-end street. Earlier this week, I thought I'd be smart and drive to the mailbox instead of attempting to cross the street. Well, that was a BIG mistake, as I nearly landed on my keister just trying to get out of the car. Yesterday, I sprinkled de-icer on the street near the mailbox so it will be a bit safer for me and others. I might do another application today.

Residential streets aren't plowed, and residents must fend for themselves until the thaw. Because my street doesn't get a lot of traffic, fluctuating temperatures have turned my street to a sheet of ice. It's even more treacherous at night.

Does anyone have ice skates or ice cleats that I can borrow?

  3. Gosh...they don't plow your streets? That's awful. I have a hard enough time some time when they don't plow our street well enough....but they do plow. What happens if you get a foot of snow or more(like us last night)would they plow then?

  4. I think that would be fun if you were a kid on ice skates - but with no skates you had better be very careful!!!

  6. Oh my goodness glory girl, ya be careful out there!!! I've been known to slip my Hubs socks over my shoes to stay upright on the upright stuff.

When I go out to do chores though I'm as bundled as the Michelin Man. I wear knee high barn boots. My friend who knows it takes me about an hour each mornin' to do my chores fears I'll fall out here by myself and die before anyone finds me. I just laugh and tell her..."I'm wearin' so much paddin' that when I fall...I just bounce back up!!! Just sayin'....

God bless ya and have a fantastic day sweetie!!!

  7. That looks positively dangerous. I'm very surprised to hear that the city doesn't plow residential streets, especially when they get iced-over like yours.

  8. Has anyone ever tried those cleated rubber band-y things you put over your toe and heel area of your shoe? I just spent the morning chipping ice off our front steps Nancy hoping it will all thaw before the next front hits Sunday night. Sigh. C'mon MUD

  9. can you get them to move your mailbox by your door? My dad is disabled (no knee--and I mean NO knee!) and his mailbox is right beside the door. Maybe one step outside the house.
