Thumbs Down

These mittens were intended for my great-niece, but obviously they are too large for her. However, since I had plenty of yarn, I finished the pair for a future afghans for Afghans youth project.

I used the Lion Brand Easy-Knit Mitten pattern #80672AD (you may need to register to access this free pattern) and reclaimed wool. While the pattern was easy to follow, I prefer the Classic Mitten pattern that I knit for my great-niece and posted last week. I think the Classic Mitten has a better fit and is not so wide in the palm. I like the fit of the thumb better, too.

  1. The good thing is someone is going to get some good use out of these. I like the way they look.

  2. The "classic mitten" pattern you referred to is the same knitting pattern my mom used to knit mittens for me and my sister when we were growing up. Talk about classic, it's positively antique! LOL! I found the pattern again when my kids were little and used it to knit mittens for them. A couple of years ago I was able to buy the original pattern booklet on Ebay and have used it again. You're right, it's a great pattern with a wide variety of sizes.

  3. Your work is always so perfect looking:) I would love for you to post a before picture of your reclaimed wool and then an after. I know you once explained about washing it before you used it but I love how you do this.
