No Excuses

Sorry that I haven't posted all week and that I worried some of you. I could blame it on the lousy, "spring" weather (snow, wind, cold), but mostly I have been just plain lazy.

I've done very little all week other than take naps and sit and stare out of the window at the horizontal snow. I did some knitting on a new Oddball blanket but nothing else. I have no desire to do anything else. I guess it could be called the doldrums.

According to Wikipedia:
In colloquial usage, "being in the doldrums" refers to being in a state of listlessness, despondency, inactivity, stagnation, or a slump, as characterised in Coleridge's poem:

All in a hot and copper sky,
The bloody Sun, at noon,
Right up above the mast did stand,
No bigger than the Moon.

Day after day, day after day,
We stuck, nor breath nor motion;
As idle as a painted ship
Upon a painted ocean.

So here I sit waiting for the tide to change and toss my ship to and fro so I can resume my journey.

  1. I love the picture! LOL!!

I subbed in a class a few weeks ago. We had to read about the doldrums. It was fascinating to finally understand where this term comes from!

I'm sorry you're kind of feeling blah. Sometimes we just need time to be still. It's rejuvenating.

  2. hi nancy... yeah.. the weather is really doing a number on a big part of the usa... glad to hear you're all snuggy in your home even though the snow is apparently unrelenting for your area. we're not having it nearly so bad as most, but the torrential rains are pelting us every afternoon... during 'drive time'... sooooo glad i'm not in that mess!

listen... if anyone deserves to put their feet up and relax.. it is you... however... i'm betting your idea of doing nothing is probably not so lazy as you're describing! btw... love the kitty cat px!!! you take care... stay outta the snow... jeannieTX

  3. Oh, Nancy, I feel the same way and I have no snow to look at!

I finished my third prayer shawl, though. Need to start another.
